Dominique Fierro is one of my favorite artists, she also happens to be my wedding photographer.  Stay tuned for more on that later….   We decided to have a joint show on Nov 25th and displayed pieces that were still available from our 2011 work.  It was also the DC debut of my limited edition prints! Her images are amazing compositions and there is no photoshop involved, just natural NATURAL talent.  If you want to check out more of her work click here!

I had the pleasure of showing my work with Chris Cooley & Tim Sherman on Nov 18th at his Gallery in Leesburg VA.  I know most people know Chris Cooley as a Redskin but he is an artist first (to me)! Cooley was an art major at Utah State, where he played football.  He was drafted in the third round in 2004 and has been a star football player ever since.  Although football has been his  ”job” for years he has kept his passion for art alive and opened The Cooley Gallery in 2010.  I am very proud and thrilled to be a part of a wonderful addition to the Leesburg artist community!

Art Deck-O: DC Playing Card Originals and Member Group Show - July 8th

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    June 29 – July 29, 2011
Art Deck-O: DC Playing Card Originals.
Artists from the Washington DC Playing Card Project

Opening Reception: Friday, July 8, 6–8:30 pm.

This past winter 54 of Washington DC’s finest artists came together to produce wildly creative designs that form a playing card deck unique to our area. The culmination of these efforts was then published in a deck of fully functional playing cards with traditional suites of diamonds, hearts, spades and clubs. Although decks of cards–designed by artists or created in a particular theme–have been around for centuries, this latest variation on the concept has given DC area artists a fun way to showcase their individual expressions in card form. Both the originals and the decks of cards will be on exhibit at Touchstone Gallery during the month of July as Touchstone partners with Art In Hand TM to promote the work of artists here in DC. Each deck is composed of a fantastic array of genres and mediums which are a big hit with artists, school teachers, magicians, game players and art lovers everywhere. Each deck is like holding an Art Gallery right in your own hands. Read More

I am so thrilled to announce that Chris Cooley and his wife Christy Cooley are now displaying some of my pieces at their gallery.  The Cooley Gallery, located in downtown Leesburg, VA, opened in 2010 and has already made a name for itself in the community.

The Cooley Gallery features many pieces done by Chris Cooley himself, as well as ceramics, paintings, and photography by other artists.  Some of my paintings that are displayed at the gallery are  Capital Reflection, Winter Cathedral, Summer Cathedral, Fall Cathedral, Cherry Blossom #6, 17th Street Capitol and Chinatown. Stop by The Cooley Gallery at 12 South King Street Leesburg, VA 20175 to check it out!

Fall Cathedral, Capitol Reflection and 17th Street Capitol are shown below, respectively.

Looking at the proofs from our Holiday card photo shoot is SO MUCH FUN! We had a fabulous photo shoot yesterday done by Cammy Termini. It was wonderfully colorful, happy and makes me want to wear bright tights to all our job sites.  We have a lot going on in the studio these days and I’m proud to say we have some serious talent hard at work in or very vivid studio.  Stay tuned for the refined photo

What an inspiring day this was for me!  Given my love of exquisite architecture and design  I was excited to see the inside of the newly renovated Arena Stage. I was invited by Washington Life magazine to a photo shoot with 24 other  other creative “ambassadors” for their creative issue. Other then the fact that I was in all black and a white furry hat and not smiling (I never do that) I left the photo shoot feeling more inspired to make my art and  push my decorative business to continue to help Washingtonians find their own creative style and OWN IT!

    ——–

We were each asked to bring a “totem” to represent us as creative professionals. I brought the very colorful National Cathedral in Fall. I’m a DC native, painter and lover of color. I had the pleasure of posing next to DJ Neekola who brought a pic of her bad ass mother who was a very famous guitarist. To my left was the Director of the Phillips Collection Dorothy Kosinski holding a gold frame.  I was in heaven listening to her tell us what’s up next for the Phillips and the latest show “Truth and Beauty. And Last but not least Tim Conlon a KICK ASS graffiti artist who I have much respect for as I am just recently experimenting with different graffiti methods and applications in my newest paintings.

The photos were taken by Doug Sonders who is especially talented and made the entire experience enjoyable. Thanks to Washington Life for taking the time to highlight those professionals who work hard everyday to “declare war on the capital’s unartistic image”.

    BIRTHDAY WEEK!!!

This week I celebrated my birthday  by hanging with some of my favorite people.  I spent the afternoon working on a few paintings I’ve been dying to get my hands on.  I invited my friends and family to stop by the studio during the day have  glass of wine and paint a bit. I had the pleasure of hanging with some of my favorite friends, and the always clever and talented artists  Rodger Schutlz and Don Patron . My Dad came by for a beer and got in on the creative action… see the pics Rodger took of my Dad. Awesome. Below are some of the paintings I started. I had been dying to start this one of Lincoln.

I will post the final pics of this painting when it’s done… I Love the direction it’s going.

Just getting started on this one. The canvas is 5 ft tall

It was also my Dad’s birthday a few days after mine.   In addition to being a brilliant mathematician, he is a very talented musician and  a huge fan of bluegrass.  BTW he happens to be a bad ass banjo player. I painted him a picture of  a Banjo for his birthday.  This has inspired me to want to do a series of musical instruments. Check out these pics of my Dad that Rodger Schultz took in the studio

My trip to Morocco besides being  breathtaking and a visual playground was a tremendous learning experience. I was lucky enough to travel with 5 amazing artists from all over the US  and some of the best artists in the decorative finishing business.  Our Host and guide in Morocco was  Maryam Montegue, a brilliant author and owner of  Peacok Pavillions, we worked together and toured some the best restaurant, shops and unknown vendors. This is a country of pattern and color. It’s pure magic for the senses

I’m sure I’ll be posting thoughts and ideas from this trip for months. It inspired me to want to try several new techniques. In the mean time enjoy some pics and a few of my newest paintings.
